    Our Philosophy

Here at From Spark to Fire, we believe Counseling is for everyone! It is an honest and open collaboration between a client and a therapist either in-person or virtually. Our goal is to work alongside you in an environment free of judgment as you identify any issues you wish to address. We will be there to offer guidance and support while we help you work towards opportunities for a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life. We understand that counseling can sometimes be an uncomfortable prospect, and we know how challenging it is to feel overwhelmed. Counseling in its broadest definition is about growth. It is about living more authentically and autonomously by removing defenses and other “survival” responses that were developed during one’s life. We want you to know that, while therapy can be an amazing tool to relieve your stress and burdens, it can also require some difficult work to get there. This experience will often prove to be an important and often life-changing part of our journey. We are honored that you are here, considering us to be there with you, providing support and compassion, as you navigate the daily challenges of life both individually and in your relationships. If you choose to contact us we know that we will be in this together.

What will your first session be like?

Your first session will be an opportunity for you and your therapist to begin getting to know each other. You will go over the content of the electronic administrative forms (privacy policy, intake questionnaire, clients’ rights, etc.) that you’ve completed, discuss expectations, answer questions you may have, and then dive right into whatever is on your mind. Your therapist will do their very best to gather as much information as is necessary to learn how to work with you on your therapeutic needs in your time together but keep in mind that sometimes it may take two or three sessions to gather all the information needed. By the end of the first session, they will remind you that attending sessions is completely up to you. They will discuss how you felt about the session and include you in the plan for how and when to proceed for moving forward. If you feel good about scheduling a second session or if you need some time to think about it first, that’s okay, the time is 100% yours.

I am here to support you through it all. My approach to therapy is holistic and collaborative. I believe we are all a sum of our own experiences and identities that shape who we are and how we interact with the world around us. When we can build our compassion for ourselves and discover our strengths we can grow to face obstacles and meet our goals. I incorporate humor and creativity to build a safe space to work.

I believe everyone deserves and is within reach of a fulfilling life. What stands in the way may be external or internal, current issues or past traumas, conscious or under the surface of conscious thought. It commonly manifests as anxiety, depression, grief/loss, relationship issues, distorted sense of self, and questioning of one’s purpose in this world. I became a therapist to help others navigate these obstacles and realize a healthy, authentic life with a sense of hope for today and tomorrow.
