    Our Philosophy

Here at From Spark to Fire, we believe Counseling is for everyone! It is an honest and open collaboration between a client and a therapist either in-person or virtually. Our goal is to work alongside you in an environment free of judgment as you identify any issues you wish to address. We will be there to offer guidance and support while we help you work towards opportunities for a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life. We understand that counseling can sometimes be an uncomfortable prospect, and we know how challenging it is to feel overwhelmed. Counseling in its broadest definition is about growth. It is about living more authentically and autonomously by removing defenses and other “survival” responses that were developed during one’s life. We want you to know that, while therapy can be an amazing tool to relieve your stress and burdens, it can also require some difficult work to get there. This experience will often prove to be an important and often life-changing part of our journey. We are honored that you are here, considering us to be there with you, providing support and compassion, as you navigate the daily challenges of life both individually and in your relationships. If you choose to contact us we know that we will be in this together.

What will your first session be like?

Your first session will be an opportunity for you and your therapist to begin getting to know each other. You will go over the content of the electronic administrative forms (privacy policy, intake questionnaire, clients’ rights, etc.) that you’ve completed, discuss expectations, answer questions you may have, and then dive right into whatever is on your mind. Your therapist will do their very best to gather as much information as is necessary to learn how to work with you on your therapeutic needs in your time together but keep in mind that sometimes it may take two or three sessions to gather all the information needed. By the end of the first session, they will remind you that attending sessions is completely up to you. They will discuss how you felt about the session and include you in the plan for how and when to proceed for moving forward. If you feel good about scheduling a second session or if you need some time to think about it first, that’s okay, the time is 100% yours.

Therapy can be intimidating for a lot of people- confessing your innermost thoughts to a stranger? No thank you! I want us to get to know one another and take things slow if that's what you need.

I work with men and women, adults and teens, in English and Spanish, helping them gain clarity to confidently live the life they choose. I especially enjoy helping those who feel suffocated by anxious thoughts and overwhelmed by emotions. You’re fucking exhausted. This isn’t where you thought you’d be at this age. You think you should’ve already figured out your relationships, your career, your family, etc. Isn’t there more to life?! All you want to do is crawl into bed and pull the covers over your head. The mean voice inside keeps telling you that you aren’t good enough, that you don’t deserve to rest. “Take care of everyone else before taking care of yourself." “You have to be strong…All The Damn Time.“ You can’t say no because then they won’t like you.” In therapy, I work with individuals and partners to connect, slow down, and heal. We will uncover what’s holding you back from experiencing more joy. Therapy is your space to be fully yourself, to break down, to rebuild, to laugh, and to cry. I’ll have your back for ALL of it.

The process of finding a therapist can be quite a journey, sifting through profiles and reading a ton of bios in hopes of finding someone who could be the right fit. So I’ll jump straight to it. My name is Sakena (suh· key ·nuh) and I’m here to help 20- and 30- something-year-old adults and couples navigate life and relationships. Together, we will figure it out, whatever “it” is; you no longer have to navigate it alone.

I believe in the power of counseling, having the space to express yourself and be honest in a way that you may never have been given the opportunity before. Life is hard and you may feel like giving up, but there is hope. I want to work collaboratively with you to find that hope in the nuances of your story and your life. I am here to support you and come alongside you. I work with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional/physical/sexual abuse, and addictions. You are brave and your being here is a courageous step.

I offer therapy from a holistic perspective that considers the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. I aspire to assist individuals to cultivate self-confidence, self-healing, and self-acceptance. My passion is to help people who want to explore spirituality and, in the process, understand their purpose and meaning of life because I believe we are all spiritual beings here to live meaningful lives. My knowledge about reincarnation and the law of karma forms the lens and aids me to discern the current life challenges one is going through. I tend to lean towards existential, meditation, and mindfulness-based modalities.
